Spillage of petroleum that reaches navigable waters* or adjoining shoreline must be immediately reported to the following two agencies:

You should be prepared to provide the following information to Federal and State Officials at the time of these calls:
- Company name and location
- Name of the person reporting
- Location of the spill
- Material spilled
- Estimated quantity
- Action taken for containment and cleanup
- Water bodies or steams involved
*Note: Navigable waters include virtually every body of water or continuous stream.
The definition includes:
- Waters which are navigable, in fact;
- Waters declared navigable by a federal Court or agency
- Tributaries of navigable waters
- Interstate waters; and
Interstate lakes, rivers and streams (a) from which fish or shell fish are taken and sold in interstate commerce; (b) or which are utilized by interstate travelers for recreational or other purposes.
